Chennai: DMK president M K Stalin said the TVK-led govt might collapse any time and asked his party cadres to be prepared for it. He was speaking to DMK district secretaries at a meeting held in Chennai to take stock of the party’s poll defeat.“TVK govt can collapse anytime and you (DMK functionaries) should be ready. There are chances that the assembly election will be held along with the Lok Sabha election in 2029,” he said.Stalin said there was blame game after the defeat with each functionary pointing fingers at another for the failure. “So, as leader of the party, I take the responsibility for the failure,” he said, and directed the high-level committee to submit a report on the reasons for the defeat in 20 days. “The committee would travel across Tamil Nadu, hold constituency-wise consultations with functionaries at all levels to identify organisational and political shortcomings that led to the setback. Once the report is obtained, action will be taken against those held responsible, irrespective of their party position,” Stalin said.Calling the result a “political tsunami,” Stalin said the party failed to convert public appreciation for its five years of governance into electoral victory. He said many voters later expressed regret over not backing DMK strongly enough, believing the party would return to power comfortably. Stalin also stressed the need for sweeping organisational reforms and greater focus on social media outreach. “The political battlefield shifted beyond public meetings and protests to online platforms. You should actively engage on social media,” Stalin said.Later in the day, Stalin released a video about the launch of a website, www.udanpirapinkural.in, and asked the party workers and the public to openly share their views on the reasons behind DMK’s poll defeat and suggest organisational changes.
