Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Sunday held simultaneous cadre meetings across all 234 assembly constituencies, asking workers to identify local issues that can be flagged by the party candidates during the campaign. In Chennai, ‘monsoon flooding, haphazard vehicle parking and inefficient drainage system’ were the most pressing issues that affect daily life of people, TVK cadres told the party leadership. In other parts of the state, issues ranging from poor bus connectivity and damaged roads to drug abuse and women’s safety were highlighted by the cadres. Party functionaries said the feedback from Sunday’s meetings would be compiled constituency-wise and used during the campaigns to ‘expose govt’s flaws.’ TVK functionaries said the exercise also aimed at identifying solutions for the problems raised by the public. During the campaigns, TVK functionaries would propose remedies to civic and governance issues. At the T Nagar assembly constituency meeting in Chennai, TVK general secretary N Anand said the exercise was not a routine organisational event but a campaign tool. “Do not wait for the announcement of the candidate list. Field work should continue without a break,” he said, urging workers to begin outreach, issue mapping and booth-level engagement immediately. The meetings also reviewed organisational performance, with warnings issued to non-performing office-bearers. “We will identify those holding on to posts without performing. They will be replaced,” Anand said.
