Ludhiana: BJP leader Sukhwinder Singh Bindra and his brother, Simranpal, were Monday booked for allegedly threatening their cousin, Navpreet, at gunpoint over a dispute regarding the presidency of the management committee of a gurdwara located in Model Town.Sukhwinder is also a member of the National Institute of Social Defense (NISD).The FIR was lodged on the complaint of Navneet’s mother, Surjeet Kaur Bindra. She alleged that the rift between them is over the control of the Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Gurdwara, which was set up by her late husband, Rajinder Singh Bindra.She said that after her husband’s death, his brother Surinder Pal Bindra and Surinder’s sons, Sukhwinder and Simranpal, started threatening her son to surrender any claim to the gurdwara’s management.She further alleged that on March 3, Sukhwinder came to the gurdwara with his security team, manhandled Navpreet, and threatened to shoot him if he did not step aside and allow Sukhwinder’s father to become the head of the gurdwara committee. ASI Pardeep Kumar, who is investigating the case, said the accused have been charged with BNS sections 351 (2) (criminal intimidation), 3 (5) (criminal act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act. Investigation is under way.
