Kolkata: Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officers of Kolkata Customs intercepted an Indian passenger at Kolkata airport on Wednesday and seized 707 live red-eared slider turtles. The passenger had arrived via an IndiGo flight and was stopped after crossing the Green Channel. A detailed search of his checked baggage led to the discovery of the live reptiles, an invasive exotic species, concealed without valid permit or import documentation. The flyer was arrested.A probe is underway to trace the supply source, intended distribution point, and the syndicate behind the operation.
