Jaipur: Voter turnout in wards associated with Rajasthan’s top political figures varied sharply during the urban local body elections, with several recording turnout above or below Jaipur Municipal Corporation’s overall 63.55%.Ward 64 in Bagru constituency, where Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma resides, recorded 52.98%, with 9,698 of 18,305 registered voters exercising their franchise. Polling stood at 14.22% at 10am, 31.75% at 1pm and 40.64% at 3pm before reaching the final figure.The ward’s turnout was 10.57 percentage points below the JMC overall figure. The Bagru Assembly constituency recorded 61.26%, while Sanganer, represented by Sharma, recorded 57.73%.Ward 141, associated with Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari, recorded 63.46%. Of its 18,199 registered voters, 11,549 cast their votes, putting the ward 0.09 percentage points below Jaipur’s overall turnout.In Ajmer North, represented by Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devanani, Ward 4 recorded 60.89% turnout.Jhotwara, represented by Cabinet Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, recorded an overall turnout of 64.26%. An official said ward-level polling varied considerably, with some wards recording more than 69% and others around 57%.A senior BJP functionary said the turnout figures showed differences in voter participation but could not indicate voter preference or which party benefited.“The voting has been cast in BJP’s favour. We are winning after the votes are counted on Sept 14,” the functionary said.
