Reacting to the development, Kejriwal said, “Truth has triumphed. Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha has triumphed once again.”
The remarks came after Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma observed that she was not recusing herself from the matter, but the case would now be placed before another bench.
Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Atishi termed the development a “big victory” for Kejriwal and said Justice Sharma has “finally recused” from hearing the excise-policy case.
Aam Aadmi Party‘s (AAP) national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda also described the development as a big victory for Kejriwal, claiming that the party had consistently maintained that the judge should not hear the matter due to an alleged conflict of interest.
AAP MLA from Burari Sanjeev Jha said, “Where truth and patience walk hand in hand, victory is assured.”He further said that no matter how dense the darkness may be, the sun of truth pierces through it, adding that the victory of Gandhi’s Satyagraha is proof that moral power is the greatest power.
Justice Sharma on Thursday initiated criminal contempt proceedings against AAP leaders Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Durgesh Pathak, Sanjay Singh, Saurabh Bhardwaj and others over their “vilifying” social media posts against her in relation to the excise-policy case.

Justice Sharma said the former Delhi chief minister “orchestrated a calculated campaign” of vilification against her on social media, instead of pursuing his legal remedies, and clarified that the CBI’s petition against the discharge of all accused persons would now be taken up by another bench.
She clarified that she was not recusing herself but was only transferring the case to another bench as she has initiated the contempt proceedings.
