Panchkula: Two cousins, both aged 18, were killed after a speeding truck hit their motorcycle head-on near PWD Colony in the Raipur Rani area of Panchkula during the intervening night of April 4 and 5.Police said the victims — Arun and Dikshit — were returning to their village on a motorcycle after visiting a relative when the accident occurred near Peer Baba Mazaar. A truck coming from Trilokpur, allegedly being driven rashly and on the wrong side of the road, collided with their bike.The impact threw both riders onto the road, after which they were run over by the truck’s rear wheel, killing them on the spot. Eyewitnesses and passersby stopped the truck and informed the police. A large crowd of villagers and commuters soon gathered at the site. Police had to manually manage traffic for some time as vehicles slowed or stopped at the accident spot.Based on a complaint lodged by the victims’ relative Nishant, police registered a case and arrested the truck driver, Abhishek Thakur, a resident of Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh. He was later released on bail. The truck involved in the accident has been seized.The bodies were taken to the civil hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula, for post-mortem and later handed over to the family.
