Jhunjhunu: An out-of-control truck ran over seven members of a family sleeping in the open near Nangli Deepsingh in the Gudha Gorji police station area of Jhunjhunu district around 4am Friday, killing three and leaving four seriously injured.Police have taken the truck driver into custody. Angry locals also blocked the road, which was cleared after police persuasion. According to information, the family of Ramswaroop and Rudmal from the Bhopa community arrived and camped at an open space near Nangli Deepsingh Thursday evening. As per their daily routine, everyone set up camp there. After dinner, the children and women spread sheets on the ground and slept in the open. The family members included Suresh Bhopa’s wife Hotki, his 13-year-old daughter Payal alias Modi, 6-year-old son Sanjay, 5-year-old son Sanjeet, Munna Bhopa’s 18-year-old daughter Ravina, 13-year-old daughter Priyanka, 8-year-old son Anil and 7-year-old son Sunil. Around 4am, a speeding trailer went out of control on the unpaved road and ran directly over the sleeping family. Hotki and the children sleeping with her were crushed to death, while Anil survived.After the accident, screams and chaos erupted at the spot. Nearby people and family members immediately rushed to attend to the injured, but by then it was too late.All the seriously injured were immediately rushed to Gudha Gorji hospital. Subsequently, all the injured were referred to BDK Hospital in Jhunjhunu, where Hotki also succumbed during treatment. Four children are still battling for life. Sanjay, Sanjeet and Sunil have been referred to Jaipur due to their critical condition, while Ravina is being treated at BDK Hospital.After the accident, enraged family members and villagers caught the trailer driver at the spot and thrashed him severely.
