Khanna: A 23-year-old man was killed and three others left with critical injuries on Friday evening when a truck crashed into two motorcycles and a scooter on the busy Amloh Road, sparking renewed calls for restricted heavy vehicle access.Lifted from the scene of accident, Akash of Jagat Colony failed to reach the local govt hospital alive. The injured survivors — Harshdeep, 16, Gurpreet, 16, and Harmanjeet Singh, 31 — were transferred to Chandigarh’s Government Medical College and Hospital with severe injuries, including head trauma.Witnesses said the truck had swerved to avoid a car, crossing into oncoming traffic and striking the two-wheelers. The heavy vehicle reportedly dragged the smaller bikes several metres along the crowded stretch, scaring the bystanders.A local resident, Surinder Singh Happy, said: “The impact was devastating; the motorcycles and the scooter were crushed completely.” Nearby police teams arrived within 15 minutes of the collision, taking the truck driver into custody from the witnesses who had apprehended him.In the wake of the fatality, Khanna residents demanded a daytime ban on heavy vehicles to prevent further tragedy on the town’s congested roads. “Restrict heavy-vehicle entry from 8am to 8pm,” said resident Kuldeep Singh. “The town simply cannot accommodate this traffic safely during peak hours.” MSID:: 130978400 413 |
