Pune: The Alandi police on Saturday arrested a truck driver who hit four vehicles on the Alandi–Markal road on Friday night. According to the police, the accused was driving under the influence of alcohol.Three people travelling in an SUV suffered injuries in the accident.The driver was arrested under section 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as sections 184 (rash driving) and 185 (drunk driving) of the Motor Vehicles Act. The complaint was filed by Ramgir Gosavi (40), a tour operator from Nashik.An officer from the Alandi police said on Friday that a group of 11 people from Nashik district had come on a pilgrimage to Alandi and Jejuri in the complainant’s SUV. “After visiting Alandi, they were heading towards Jejuri when a truck coming from the opposite direction hit their vehicle on the Alandi–Markal road. Two women and a 10-year-old girl in the SUV were injured in the accident,” the officer said.Police said the complainant and others began chasing the truck. During the chase, the truck hit a few more vehicles. The group eventually forced the driver to stop the vehicle in Charholi, pulled him out of the cabin and assaulted him. “The complainant rescued the driver and brought him to the police station. He was under the influence of alcohol. We have arrested him,” the officer said.
