T’puram: A speeding truck crashed into a roadside eatery at Moonnumukku Junction in Attingal in the early hours of Tuesday, triggering a massive fire that completely destroyed the vehicle’s cabin and the shop. No one was injured as the workers managed to flee moments before the impact.The accident occurred around 1.30am when the driver of the Tamil Nadu-registered truck, travelling towards Kollam, reportedly hit the road divider, lost control and ploughed into the shop, locals said.The impact sparked a fire from the front portion of the truck, which quickly spread to the eatery. Fire and rescue services personnel from Attingal rushed to the spot and were later joined by two fire tenders from Kallambalam station. After an extensive operation, the blaze was brought under control.Workers at the shop noticed the speeding truck heading towards them and ran to safety, narrowly escaping a major tragedy.Three LPG cylinders stored inside the shop caught fire, but none exploded. One cylinder remained trapped beneath the burning vehicle, making firefighting operations more difficult.The truck crew abandoned the vehicle and fled immediately after the crash.Police registered a case and launched a probe to ascertain the exact cause of the accident and trace the occupants of the truck, who remain absconding.
