Agartala: Tripura has recorded a remarkable rise in women’s participation in the workforce over the past three years, CM Manik Saha has said.He attributed this progress to targeted initiatives promoting women’s empowerment, skill development, entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion across the state. The female labour force participation rate has grown from 37.5% in 2022 to 45.9% in 2025, reflecting the success of these measures.Addressing the gathering at the 11th governing council meeting of NITI Aayog on Thursday, he highlighted that nearly 4.96 lakh women are actively engaged through 55,676 self-help groups (SHGs), which have become a cornerstone of entrepreneurship and economic independence for women. To further encourage women-led enterprises, the state has introduced the Tripura Women Entrepreneurship Policy 2025, which includes provisions such as permitting night shifts for women workers under strict safety protocols. The CM emphasised the govt’s commitment to expanding economic opportunities for women by improving access to skill training, financial resources, and entrepreneurial platforms. This approach, he said, has not only boosted workforce participation but also strengthened women’s role in driving Tripura’s economic growth. He added that the expansion of SHGs in rural areas has been pivotal to this transformation, enabling women to save, access credit, establish micro-enterprises, and secure sustainable livelihoods.Efforts are underway to integrate SHG-based ventures into the formal Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) ecosystem, thereby broadening their economic potential. Saha outlined Tripura’s achievements in empowering women economically and integrating them into the organized workforce. The policies and initiatives under this vision, he noted, underscore the state’s resolve to advance women’s participation in business and industry while contributing significantly to Tripura’s overall growth trajectory.
