Agartala: Election Commission of India will begin the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tripura on Sept 5.Chief electoral officer (CEO) Brijesh Pandey said the revision will focus on identifying and removing duplicate entries and names linked to people who have shifted, died or are ineligible, while ensuring every eligible citizen gets an opportunity to register.A total of 3,356 booth-level officers (BLOs) and 375 BLO supervisors will work across all 60 Assembly constituencies and 3,356 polling stations. Tripura currently has around 28.97 lakh voters, including about 14.52 lakh men and 14.45 lakh women.Pandey said door-to-door verification will run from Sept 15 to Oct 14, 2026. BLOs will visit households to distribute pre-filled enumeration forms, help residents complete them and collect the forms. Each household will receive up to three visits.Voters must verify personal details, add required information, sign the form and submit it within the deadline. Forms can also be submitted online through the ECINET application or the web portal. No document will be collected during the door-to-door enumeration. If additional verification is required, the electoral registration officer (ERO) will issue notices after publication of the draft roll, giving individuals time to submit supporting documents. The draft electoral roll will be published on Oct 21, 2026. Claims and objections can be filed from Oct 21 to Nov 20. The final electoral roll is expected on Dec 23, 2026.Pandey said Aadhaar may be used to verify identity but will not be treated as proof of citizenship. Appeals against ERO decisions can be made to the district election officer and then the CEO under the Representation of the People Act, 1950.He added that BLOs are mapping family lineages by linking existing voters with the 2005 electoral rolls, which are available on the CEO Tripura website. Training for election officials, BLOs, political parties and booth-level agents has been completed, and consultations with political parties are continuing at state, district and sub-divisional levels. Help desks and toll-free services will remain available throughout the revision period.
