Agartala: Tripura has set a target of achieving 500 megawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030, power minister Ratan Lal Nath said at the launch of the Tripura Clean Energy Roadmap, Green Skilling programme and TREAT initiative.Nath said renewable energy, particularly solar power, had emerged as a key driver of economic growth, technological innovation, employment generation and sustainable development in the state.The Unnayan through Transformative Solar Applications (UTSA) initiative aims to create a skilled workforce for the expanding solar energy sector. The Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA), in partnership with the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission and Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd, is conducting training programmes such as Suryamitra and Solar PV Technician.The minister said the programmes were supported by Union ministry of new and renewable energy and was aligned with the Asian Development Bank-backed initiative to transform Tripura’s renewable energy sector.The state has so far achieved around 58.76 MW of renewable energy capacity. Several initiatives, including PM-KUSUM, PM-DevINE, PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, PM-JANMAN, solar micro-grids, green hydrogen, micro-hydel, hydrokinetics, pumped storage, battery storage and biogas projects, are being implemented to expand clean energy access.
