Agartala: A sub-inspector of Amtali Police Station was relieved of her duties on Tuesday after being accused of involvement in an attack on the home of a health department employee in Badharghat of the city last week.A group of youths reportedly attacked the residence of Kaberi Sinha while the implicated SI, Susmita Debnath, was present on June 19 in the Dasharath Deb Stadium area. Although a departmental inquiry against the officer seems to have started, no arrests have been made regarding the incident.Sources said the violence stemmed from a dispute tied to a woman and accusations of an extramarital affair. The situation allegedly intensified when a group arrived at Kaberi Sinha’s home late at night in the Badharghat area.Family members said the attackers caused property damage, physically harmed residents, and instilled fear in the community. Those who were injured were taken to a hospital, and it was claimed that the attack occurred in front of police officers, including SI Debnath.The situation has gained political traction with claims that some attackers are connected to the ruling BJP. Residents and opposition voices have raised concerns over the lack of arrests despite the serious allegations and the time that has passed.The victim’s family has called for the swift arrest of all involved and a thorough, unbiased investigation into the attack.
