Agartala: Tripura CM Manik Saha has proposed a coordination committee to improve information-sharing among the Border Security Force (BSF), district administration, police and the state govt amid efforts to strengthen security along the Bangladesh border.Saha said a pilot project for modern fencing was underway in Sepahijala district and would help plug existing gaps along Tripura’s 856-km international boundary.“A pilot project for modern fencing is underway in Sepahijala district. It is essential for us to grasp the challenges faced by individuals residing near the border while improving collaboration with the state govt,” CM said.The chief minister said developments and concerns along the border were often identified by the BSF but not always communicated promptly to the state govt. He stressed the need for a structured mechanism to ensure the flow of information from the district level to the state level.“I proposed the establishment of a coordination committee to facilitate the flow of information from the district level to the state level. Matters concerning the BSF can then be addressed with the relevant officials. The police will also participate to ensure we have a comprehensive understanding of events along the border,” Saha added.Saha, who also holds the home portfolio, said border security remained a priority. He said the state currently had three layers of security involving the BSF, Tripura State Rifles and Tripura Police, but added that regular monitoring and closer coordination were needed to identify and address gaps.“We are committed to enhancing border security. Currently, there are three layers of security provided by the BSF, Tripura State Rifles, and Tripura Police. Improved coordination and consistent monitoring are essential to identify and effectively resolve gaps,” he said.Referring to PM Narendra Modi’s focus on national security, Saha said there would be no compromise on security measures along the border.“Issues related to the border have persisted for many years. We remain optimistic that the current efforts will conclude promptly and that the challenges will be resolved,” he said.
