Guwahati: The Dr DD Lapang Foundation and USTM held a memorial lecture and essay competition prize distribution ceremony in Meghalaya.The first Dr DD Lapang Memorial Lecture and Essay Competition Prize Distribution Ceremony was held at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya’s Central Auditorium to mark the first death anniversary of the former Meghalaya CM and veteran statesman.The event brought Lapang’s family and USTM together, reflecting their longstanding association and the university’s engagement with the educational, social and developmental aspirations of Ri-Bhoi district.Nongpoh MLA Mayrolborn Syiem, members of Lapang’s family, USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, Vice-Chancellor Prof GD Sharma, Ri-Bhoi College principal Elizabeth Kharkongkor, academicians, public representatives, students and well-wishers attended the programme.Syiem paid tribute to Lapang and recalled his contribution to the formation and development of Ri-Bhoi district. Referring to him as the “Father of Ri-Bhoi District,” Syiem said the district remained one of the most significant legacies of Lapang’s public life and commitment to the people.
