Kalyan: Three young men from Mumbai’s Malad were rescued after they got stranded on the steep slopes of Malanggad in Ambernath late on Sunday night while attempting a trek inspired by social media reels.The trio had ventured to the hill after watching reels on social media showcasing the trek but lost their way during the descent as darkness set in. Unable to identify the correct route on the rugged terrain, they alerted authorities, prompting a late-night rescue operation.The rescued trekkers were identified as Shivam Singh (24), Mangesh Prajapati (25) and Guruprasad Vishwakarma, all residents of Malad East. According to Hill Line police officials, the three had climbed the hill through the Mama-Bhanja hill section, a stretch known for its difficult terrain. While descending, they found themselves trapped on a rocky patch after losing their bearings.After receiving information, the district disaster management cell coordinated with Hill Line police, the Ambernath fire brigade and local villagers to launch a rescue mission. Under the guidance of fire officer Bhagwat Sonawane, rescuers trekked through slippery paths, steep cliffs and poor visibility to reach the stranded youths.Despite the challenging conditions, the rescue team safely brought all three trekkers down shortly before midnight. None of them sustained any injuries.The incident has once again highlighted the growing trend of youngsters attempting risky treks after being influenced by viral social media content. Officials urged visitors to avoid venturing into restricted or dangerous areas without proper planning, local guidance and safety equipment, especially during the monsoon, when trekking routes become highly slippery and hazardous.
