Dhubri: A Dhubri Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) nurse who allegedly posed as a gynaecologist, her husband and an alleged tout arrested after a woman died during an alleged illegal abortion at an unauthorised clinic, were sent to judicial custody on Thursday after their two-day police remand ended.Police produced Habiba Yasmin, the nurse, her husband Mostafizur Rahman and Shefali Begum before the court of chief judicial magistrate Chinmoy Barua. The court sent them to Dhubri District Jail.Dhubri Sadar police station OC Pritam Das told TOI that the trio’s interrogation had been completed. “We have received several inputs. The crime branch is also extracting data from their three mobile phones, which will help us ascertain how the racket was being run and its extent,” Das said.The three were arrested after Maleka Bibi, 35, died during an alleged illegal abortion procedure at a clinic allegedly operating from a house at Rowa Part II village.Sources in Dhubri district NRHM said Yasmin, appointed as a staff nurse under NRHM in 2008 and posted at DMCH, is likely to face suspension or termination.Dhubri district NRHM programme manager Arif Ahmed said the process had already been initiated on the basis of the police report, which would be forwarded to the state NRHM mission director for necessary action. DMCH has also sought Yasmin’s service details from the district NRHM office for submission to the state health services department.
