Dibrugarh: Four hours of heavy rain flooded all 20 wards of Tinsukia on Thursday morning, crippling life.Residents described it as the town’s worst waterlogging in years, with knee-deep water swamping streets, residential areas and commercial hubs. Among the worst-hit localities were Parbotia Road, Rangagora Road, Chaliha Nagar, AT Road, Jyotinagar, Bordoloi Nagar, Ram Krishna Nagar, Court Tiniali, Borguri, Raja Ali Road, Thandagarh, Milanpally, Amrit Tamuly Road, VIP Road and West Sripuria.Shops remained shut through the morning as traders bailed out water with buckets. Vehicles struggled on flooded roads, while residents waded through murky water. Floodwater also entered several homes.Strong winds uprooted two large trees — one near Tinsukia College and another near the Forest Office in Makum — further disrupting movement.Power supply was temporarily snapped in several localities after transformers, poles and conductors were submerged. Authorities said supply would be restored only after the water receded and the areas were declared safe.Tinsukia Municipal Board chairperson Pulak Chetia said efforts were on to drain the affected areas. “Our teams are working to drain out the water from the affected localities. We understand the hardship residents are facing, and we are trying to restore normalcy as quickly as possible,” Chetia said.The district administration later set up a round-the-clock Flood Control Room at the District Emergency Operation Centre after the DDMA cited a “flood-like situation” in town and the risk of flooding elsewhere during the monsoon. Nothing changes until the next monsoon brings back the same nightmare,” said Indrajit Gogoi of Chaliha Nagar.
