Lucknow: The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT), Ayodhya, has awarded ₹99.21 lakh in compensation to the family of a schoolteacher who died in a road accident in Ambedkar Nagar in 2019. The tribunal held the motorcycle rider responsible for the crash and directed the insurer to deposit the amount with 7% annual interest from the date the claim petition was filed.Presiding officer Ravi Kant passed the order in a case relating to the death of Dalilullah Chaudhary, a resident of Chintaura Mubarakpur and a lecturer at Horvat Triloknath Inter College. Chaudhary was killed on the night of May 14, 2019, after a motorcycle allegedly hit the scooter he was riding with his son, Arham Abdullah.According to the order, Chaudhary and his son were travelling to offer Tarawih prayers when a speeding motorcycle rammed their scooter on the Chintaura Khurd road in Tanda. Chaudhary sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.After the incident, Chaudhary’s wife, Darkhashan Gulchi, and his son filed a claim under the Motor Vehicles Act, seeking compensation exceeding ₹1.81 crore. During the hearings, the insurance company and the motorcycle rider contested the claim and denied the involvement of the insured vehicle.The tribunal, however, relied on the police investigation, charge sheet, and the testimony of the deceased’s son to conclude that the accident occurred due to rash and negligent driving by the motorcycle rider.While calculating compensation, the tribunal considered Chaudhary’s monthly salary of ₹79,632, his age, and the number of dependants. The final award was fixed at ₹99,21,504.The tribunal also ordered that 50% of the compensation be placed in a fixed deposit for five years to provide longer-term financial security, with the remaining amount to be transferred directly to the claimants’ bank accounts.
