Hyderabad: Several parts of the city experienced rainfall on Tuesday evening, causing widespread traffic disruption, particularly along the western IT corridor.According to data from the Telangana State Planning Society (TSPSC), Shaikpet recorded the highest rainfall at 51.3 mm, followed by Golconda with 37.5 mm. Other areas that experienced moderate rainfall included Gachibowli (36.8 mm), Serilingampally (JPN Nagar) at 33.3 mm, Raidurg (31.5 mm) and Madhapur (26.8 mm). Furthemore, Kukatpally and Balanagar areas also saw moderate rainfall of between 24 and 27 mm, while Miyapur recorded around 26.8 mm.Brief hailstorms also hit parts of the western corridor, including Kondapur.Meanwhile, unseasonal rain accompanied by strong winds damaged several trees in the city. More than 14 tree falls were reported, mainly in Cyberabad and at he West Zone of Hyderabad. This led to heavy traffic congestion in Gachibowli, Kondapur, Madhapur, Miyapur, Hafeezpet and Yousufguda. There was a major disruption along the Gachibowli–DLF route where a tree and an electricity pole had fallen onto the road divider. This forced the temporary closure of the stretch, resulting in long traffic jams.Officials said that strong winds uprooting trees along key corridors caused more disruption than rainfall alone.“All the fallen trees were attended to immediately by DRF teams. About 12 were cleared quickly, with the remaining ones still in progress. Now, all fallen trees have been cleared and traffic is gradually returning to normal,” said AV Ranganath, commissioner of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA).Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers in isolated areas of Telangana on Wednesday. The IMD also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in districts including Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam.
