Srinagar, Sep 22: The Sub District Hospital (SDH) Kangan’s Trauma Centre has been completed and made functional 24×7, catering to emergency and trauma cases along Srinagar-Leh highway as well as people from adjoining areas, J&K Government informed Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.
The information was given in response to a starred question raised by Kangan MLA Mian Mehar Ali, who sought details on whether the government planned to augment or upgrade SDH Kangan into an Emergency and Trauma Referral Hospital, considering its strategic location.
According to the government, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, had sanctioned the establishment of a Trauma Care Centre at SDH Kangan during 2007-08 under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for establishment of Trauma Care Facilities along National Highways.
The government further stated that 40 posts of various categories, including specialists, doctors, paramedics and other staff, were created for the Trauma Centre through Government Order No. 235-HME of 2010 dated April 19, 2010. Of these, 22 posts are currently filled.
To further strengthen manpower, 12 additional posts of doctors and paramedics have also been provided under the National Health Mission (NHM).
The government said the functional Trauma Centre is providing round-the-clock services, particularly for emergency and trauma cases occurring along the Srinagar-Leh National Highway, besides catering to the healthcare needs of people from neighbouring areas.
