Nagpur: A 35-year-old transperson, Radhika Jadhav, died by suicide inside ward no. 17 of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Thursday morning.Police said Radhika, a resident of Nandgaon Peth in Amravati, was a train beggar. On April 23, she accidentally fell off a moving train near Badnera railway station, suffering severe injuries that led to the amputation of both her legs. She was initially admitted to a local hospital and later shifted to GMCH Nagpur. According to hospital sources, Radhika had been suffering severe pain and complications following the double amputation. In the early hours of Thursday, she recorded a poignant voice note on her mobile phone expressing her distress. “The pain is unbearable. I am committing suicide. I am ending my life’s journey. Please hand over my mortal remains to Amrapali in Amravati for the last rites,” she reportedly said in the recording. She also urged them to avoid post-mortem of her body.Investigators said she used a bandage strip tied to her hospital bed and was believed to have died around 1.10am. The body was noticed around 7am after hospital staff found Radhika missing from the bed. Doctors later declared her dead. A companion had been staying with her in the ward during recovery.Ajni Police have registered an accidental death report and begun an inquiry. Officers said no foul play is suspected so far. The voice recording is being examined, and statements are being taken from the companion and hospital staff. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
