Chandigarh: An attempt to delay the transfer of a head constable posted as munshi in the proclaimed offenders (PO) and summons cell has led to administrative action against the unit, with senior police officers directing the head constable to join the crime branch and transferring the cell in-charge inspector to the police lines.The development came to light after senior police officers received an anonymous complaint alleging irregularities and corruption in the PO and summons cell. An inquiry was subsequently initiated to examine the allegations.Sources said head constable Sharanjit, who was serving as munshi in the cell, had already been transferred to the crime branch but had not been relieved from his previous posting.According to sources, Sharanjit was later instructed through the police control room to be relieved from the PO and summons cell and report to his new assignment. However, after his leave was sanctioned by inspector Harbhajan, the cell in-charge, he proceeded on a three-day leave instead of joining the crime branch.The matter escalated when Sharanjit appeared before senior officers, accompanied by Harbhajan. Following the interaction, officials directed Sharanjit to immediately join the crime branch, while Harbhajan was ordered to report to the police lines.Sources said the action was taken amid concerns over the circumstances surrounding the head constable’s transfer and the alleged attempt to delay his relieving.Following the transfer, Harbhajan reportedly sought clarification from senior officers regarding the reasons for the administrative action against him.Meanwhile, officials continue to examine the allegations contained in the anonymous complaint. Police sources said the claims of corruption and irregularities in the PO and summons cell have not yet been substantiated and will be assessed after the inquiry is completed.
