Patna: Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) on Thursday organised a day-long training programme on “Groundwater development and management practices and local groundwater issues” at TPS College in the city.The programme aimed to create awareness among students and other stakeholders about groundwater conservation, rainwater harvesting, artificial recharge, water quality, and sustainable water resource management. More than 100 students participated.Chief guest CGWB regional director Rajiv Ranjan Shukla discussed the status of groundwater resources in Bihar, their scientific management, and the need for public participation. He emphasised that groundwater conservation is not solely the govt’s responsibility and requires collective effort from all sections of society.Public health engineering department engineer-in-chief Nityanand Prasad said citizens must focus on the judicious use of groundwater resources.College principal Tapan Kumar Sandilya said groundwater forms the foundation of the state’s economic growth and stressed the need for greater public awareness on its conservation.During the inaugural session, dignitaries and students took a pledge committing themselves to water conservation. They also symbolically offered water into a ceremonial vessel (kalash) to highlight the importance of groundwater recharge and reaffirm their commitment to conservation and augmentation. An exhibition was also organised as part of the programme.
