The Speaker asked govt to make a statement in the legislature on the issue on June 29

Mumbai: A day after the murder of 22-year old Mayank Lohar on a moving train, assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar directed the Mahayuti govt to provide security to Mumbai’s local trains and make a statement before the legislature on this issue on Monday.“Thousands of people travel on Mumbai’s local trains. When someone is murdered in broad daylight, it is a very serious issue,” said Narwekar in the assembly. “Railway platforms are monitored by the railways. But the state government is responsible for law and order. There is an IPS officer in charge. Despite this, such an unfortunate incident has happened.”The issue was raised in the assembly by Congress leader Nana Patole. “This incident has shocked the whole country. Don’t people have a right to live?” he asked. He said he had made a visit in the morning and found security inadequate. “I visited a train station and found the scanning was just an eyewash. This is a city which has experienced the 26/11 terror strike,” said Patole.Addressing the Speaker, he said, “You are also from Mumbai. We should have a discussion in the assembly on this,” said Patole.
