Patna: With a view to easing traffic congestion and jams in and around the state capital, police have decided to install traffic signals and high-capacity CCTV cameras at 20 locations in the city. The signals and CCTVs will be installed in key areas under Patna Municipal Corporation, especially in outer regions such as Bypass, Zero Mile and other locations falling in Danapur Nizamat, additional director general of traffic and modernization, Sudhanshu Kumar, said during a press conference held at the police headquarters (PHQ) on Monday.The ADG said, “The Bihar Police has identified more than 20 points in the city for installation of traffic signals along with high-capacity CCTV cameras. The proposal for the installation will soon be sent to the transport department. The installation of signals and CCTV cameras will help ensure better and smooth management of traffic in the city.”Areas falling under Danapur Nizamat and colonies located near Bypass are currently not covered under the network of signals and CCTV cameras, he said, adding that signals and CCTV cameras are required in these areas as they face problems in traffic management.“There are 20-22 points where signals will be installed after carrying out a survey for the purpose, and the necessary proposal will be sent to the authorities concerned,” the ADG said.The nine divisional headquarters towns of the state are being covered under the “safe city surveillance” scheme for installation of traffic signals and CCTV cameras, the ADG said, adding that work is currently underway in six out of the nine divisional headquarters towns.Besides, a survey is being carried out in the remaining 27 districts of the state for installation of traffic signals and CCTV cameras, and a proposal will be sent to the authorities concerned along with the expected financial outlay for clearance in the next financial year, he said, adding that these traffic signals will be equipped with automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras.Meanwhile, the ADG also shared details of steps taken by the Bihar govt to enhance the state’s police infrastructure, aiming to provide safer and more responsive services to citizens.
