Hyderabad: A tractor driver has allegedly poisoned his two-year-old daughter and then tried to kill himself at Lachammagudem village, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district, due to marital discord. However, the man, survived the suicide bid.Varikuppala Ravi, 30, married Swathi, 27, a native of Madugula village in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district, four years ago. They had two children, two-year-old Meghana and nine-month-old Mayuri.According to Narayanpur police, the marital relationship strained in the past six months as Ravi used to frequently quarrel with Swathi over domestic issues. Unable to put up with the frequent quarrels, Swathi left their home three months ago and moved to her parents’ house in Madugula with her younger daughter, Mayuri. Ravi retained custody of their elder daughter.On March 21, Swathi approached Madugula police seeking their help to meet her elder daughter, Meghana. Police called Ravi and asked him to bring the child to Madugula, and he agreed to do it on March 23. After talking to police, Ravi took Meghana to village outskirts. En route he purchased rat poison. “He mixed poison in water and made the girl consume it, before consuming the same substance himself,” Narayanpur sub-inspector (SI) J Jagan said.After consuming poison, Ravi went home with his daughter and tried to sleep. As the girl started vomiting and Ravi also became unwell, family members rushed them to the govt hospital at Gollaguda. Meghana was referred to Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad, where she succumbed while undergoing treatment at 11.05am on March 23. Ravi is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Nalgonda.“On the complaint of Swathi, we have registered a case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Ravi. Once discharged from the hospital, he would be arrested and produced before the court for judicial remand,” the SI said.
