Tory Burch Spring 2027 Offers a Joyful, Colorful Escape From Our Modern Dystopia

Tory Burch has always been generous — and clever — with color. Even her show venues tend to include a strong color story, from Fall 2026’s golden runway, to Spring 2025’s floor-to-ceiling turquoise tile. The backdrop for Spring 2027, shown Thursday night at Isamu Noguchi’s Sunken Garden in lower Manhattan, may have been her boldest yet: A rich burnt orange carpet covered the entire show space encircling the garden, which itself was accented by bright turquoise posts. And when the show began, an even bolder and broader assortment of colors flooded the circular runway.

Unsurprisingly, Burch’s starting point for the collection was all about color. “There was this Venetian slipper where I started and it had so many crazy colors in it,” she said backstage after the show. So many that she’s still having trouble defining them all: “I still haven’t been able to name that green leather and I’m thinking, what color is that green? Because I’ve not really seen that. It’s not mint, it’s not seafoam… So I challenge our team to think of colors that weren’t just available.” Aside from that green, there are purples, corals, reds, yellows and blues (most of which I would also have a hard time naming) all combined within looks: “granny sweaters” with midi skirts, feathered scarves with silk jacquard coats. It was all part of Burch’s ornate exploration of “the psychology of how women pull things together,” per the show notes.

Burch wanted to get a little more experimental this season: Tie-dye, embroidery, beading and metallic thread added more dimension to the already-textured collection. “I wanted everything a bit off kilter, but working,” she explained. “I love a woman’s body and I want her to feel powerful and confident when she wears our clothing, so I thought about color a lot and how clothing can really enhance a mood through color and texture.”

Speaking of mood, the show wasn’t all sunny and cheerful: The soundtrack, which included “The Shining” theme, was more dark than optimistic, but the clothes were there to bring the joy.

“It’s quite dystopian for all of us right now,” Burch said. “So how do you dream and escape? I think you can do that through self-expression.” And great outfits, of course. “I think that we’ve all had to manage through difficult times and look for bright spots,” she continued. “I wanted to challenge myself to think about, what is a bright spot today?”

Sometimes, it’s about letting go and rolling with the punches: At the end of our interview, Burch admitted that the soundtrack only came together three hours prior, and shared that the show’s singular barefoot model was not an artistic choice — she simply hadn’t been given her shoes in time. “My team was upset. I’m like, ‘Barefoot’s the new black!’ You just can’t worry about it.”
