Kolkata: Some of the finest hockey talents from India’s major ports will be seen in action in the All India Major Port Hockey Championship that was inaugurated at the SAI Kolkata Hockey Ground on Tuesday. Six prominent teams from major ports across the country namely SMP Kolkata, MBPA Mumbai, PPA Paradeep, CHPA Chennai, VOC Tuticorin, and VPA Visakhapatnam will battle for top honours in the four-day tournament.On the opening day, fans witnessed some high-scoring and competitive matches. In the first match, SMPK secured a commanding 7-4 victory against Chennai Port. The second match saw VOC Tuticorin defeat Paradeep Port Authority 6-3. Continuing their dominant form, SMPK registered another impressive win, defeating Visakhapatnam Port Authority 8-2.SMPK’s Yusuf Bhangra emerged as the standout performer of the day, scoring three goals and becoming the top scorer in the opening round.
