New Delhi: A two-and-a-half-year-old girl died and her seven-and-a-half-year-old sister was injured in a suspected gas leak inside their apartment in east Delhi’s Ghazipur on Sunday afternoon.The toddler who died was Sanna Khatun, and her injured sister Rafia Khatun.Police said a PCR call went to them around 2.19 pm after a strong smell of some chemical substance was reported from a flat at Ashirwad Apartment in MV-3, Ghazipur. The caller told police that two children had fallen unconscious in a room where their mother was present.Both children were rushed to Metro Hospital in Sector-11, Noida. Doctors declared Sanna as brought dead. Rafia was reported to be stable and safe.Teams from Ghazipur police station reached the hospital and the spot soon after getting information. The crime team and officials from the DDMA inspected the premises but found no foul play.Police said that according to the children’s mother, the siblings were playing when they fell over each other before losing consciousness. Their father, who works as a tailor, was at his shop at the time of the incident.It has been suspected that the cause of the death is a gas leak. A probe is under way. Senior officers also visited the spot, and an expert from the forensic science laboratory was brought ascertain the source of the burning sustance.
