Vadodara: A one-and-a-half-year-old boy was killed at a sand unit after a tractor crushed his head while reversing. The child was left unattended when the incident occurred.The accident took place at Gulshan Reti Centre, a unit that bags and sells sand, in Popatpura village in Godhra taluka. Equipment, including a tractor fitted with a bucket, is used at the unit to load sand.Hitesh Baria, a labourer, worked at the unit and lived there with his wife Vata, sister Priyanka, daughter Vaishali (6) and son Vikas (18 months). Vikas and Vaishali often played in the sand while other family members were at work.On Wednesday evening, Vaishali and Vikas went to the unit office to drink water. After drinking water, Vaishali went to the toilet herself while Vikas started walking back alone towards his parents. At that time, the driver of a tractor fitted with a bucket to load and move sand reversed the vehicle recklessly without checking if anyone was behind.Vikas was standing just behind the tractor and fell after being hit. His head was crushed under the tractor’s wheel, and he died on the spot. The tractor driver fled after realizing that the child had died.
