Lucknow: On directions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Lucknow Police intensified their crackdown against sale, storage and use of banned Chinese kite string, carrying out extensive preventive checks across the city in the wake of recent fatal and serious accidents.JCP (law and order) Babloo Kumar said police teams inspected over 700 shops, godowns and other locations where kite-flying material was sold and issued three challans for running shops illegally.
“Based on specific inputs, a large-scale checking drive was carried out across the city and no Chinese manjha was found anywhere,” he said. Despite absence of recovery, police took action in cases of violations linked to unsafe kite-flying practices. FIR was registered at Bazarkhala, in the case of 34-year-old motorcyclist Mohammed Shoaib bleeding to death after his throat was slashed by a sharp nylon kite string on the Haiderganj overbridge in Khala Bazar. The JCP said the exercise was preventive in nature and aimed at discouraging illegal activity before it leads to loss of life.Police said west Lucknow was major focus area due to past incidents. Raja Bazaar, Ganeshganj and the Kakori township, witnessed intensified scrutiny, with teams conducting surprise inspections and sustained monitoring.Senior police officers are personally supervising the enforcement campaign, with daily reviews at SHO level to fix accountability and ensure strict adherence to instructions. Babloo Kumar said the special drive would continue in coming days.
