CHENNAI: Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) president Kamal Haasan has convened an emergency high-level meeting in Chennai on Friday to finalise the party’s official strategy for the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections. MNM general secretary A Arunachalam, while announcing the meeting in a release on Thursday, emphasised its urgency as the state enters a feverish campaign phase. The party has issued a mandatory attendance call for all district secretaries, zonal organisers of various party wings, and members of the administrative and executive committees. The primary focus will be on the party’s 2026 election positioning, specifically regarding seat-sharing negotiations within the DMK-led alliance and the finalisation of candidate names for the allotted constituencies. The meeting comes amid reports that MNM is likely to contest two or three seats in the DMK front while maintaining its own “battery torch” symbol. Kamal will use this meeting to brief district functionaries on the progress of alliance talks, receive internal feedback regarding the limited number of seats allocated to the party in the DMK-led alliance, and strategies on urban outreach, where MNM’s influence is traditionally strong.
