Thiruvananthapuram: A 27-year-old electrical engineer from Coimbatore was taken into custody for allegedly trespassing into a foreign woman’s room and attempting to harass her in Varkala early on Monday.The incident occurred around 2am at a homestay where the victim, a 27-year-old woman from Lithuania, was staying. According to police, the accused, identified as Andrew, a native of Avinashi Road in Coimbatore, was staying in another room at the property. Taking advantage of the situation when the woman’s companions stepped out and the room door was unlocked, the accused allegedly entered the room without permission and attempted to harass her. The woman raised the alarm, following which the accused fled. Based on the complaint lodged by the victim, Varkala police registered a case and launched an investigation. The accused was tracked down and taken into custody shortly afterwards. Police said further legal procedures are under way and the accused will be produced before a court on Tuesday.
