Chennai: In a move to curb corruption and help police stations meet their day-to-day expenses, Tamil Nadu govt has increased the monthly contingency fund for police stations across the state by up to 700%, with allocations ranging from ₹30,000 to ₹50,000. Govt has sanctioned ₹71 crore annually for the revised allocations.A govt order (GO), classifying police stations into three categories based on the number of reported crimes, increased the contingency funds from ₹3,750 to ₹30,000, ₹6,000 to ₹40,000 and ₹8,250 to ₹50,000 for the three categories. The enhanced allocation is intended to enable police stations to meet routine administrative and operational expenses, reducing dependence on unofficial funding sources and preventing corrupt practices.
