Kolkata: Trinamool has submitted a series of complaints to the Bengal chief electoral officer (CEO) against several senior BJP and AJUP netas for alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).TMC alleged that Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman used govt machinery, including a helicopter, to visit Serampore and Kalna on April 15. The complaint states she distributed “weaver cards” to voters and linked govt benefits to BJP support.TMC also moved against the state leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari and former Union minister Smriti Irani for distributing “Matrishakti Bharosa” and “Yuvashakti Bharosa” cards, which promise monthly payments of Rs 3,000 to cardholders.Specific allegations of cash distribution were levelled against BJP candidates Arjun Singh in Noapara and Rajesh Mahato in Gopiballavpur, who allegedly handed out Rs 3,000 each under the “Annapurna Bhandar” scheme. In Bhatpara, candidate Arjun’s son, Pawan Singh, was also accused of distributing money alongside copies of the Gita. Further complaints stated that BJP’s Jitendra Tiwari donated Rs 25,000 to a club in Pandaveswar, while candidates in Sonarpur South, English Bazar and Baghda distributed “Nari Shakti Bharosa” cards.TMC also filed a complaint against Humayun Kabir of the AJUP regarding a social media video. The party claimed that Kabir made remarks targeting national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and party functionary Mainul Haque Rana, and issued threats to kill and bury opponents. TMC argued these actions constitute criminal intimidation and violate MCC rules regarding attacks on personal lives and the use of unverified allegations. The party maintained that these actions by the BJP and AJUP were attempts to implement manifesto promises during the election period and bribe the electorate.
