T’puram: The city police have put in place extensive security arrangements to ensure the safety of thousands of people attending the Onam Week celebrations in the capital.A 30-member police team, led by Control Room CI Sashidharan Pillai, is overseeing operations from the control room near the Nishagandhi auditorium. The control room has been equipped with 42 cameras to closely monitor the main celebration venues and surrounding areas. Additional cameras have also been installed at various venues and nearby locations.Drone cameras are being used to assess crowd density and strengthen surveillance, while plainclothes police personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order among the spectators. A metal detector has been installed near the main entrance, and ambulance facilities have been kept ready to respond to emergencies.To regulate the crowds, separate entry and movement routes have been arranged. Public announcements are being made at regular intervals, including warnings to safeguard valuables and instructions to be followed during emergencies.Police officials said people can approach the control room without hesitation for any assistance during the celebrations. They added that the police personnel are ready to help the public in a friendly and accessible manner while ensuring a safe and orderly festival atmosphere.
