GUDALUR: In a second such incident in the last two weeks, a tiger killed a coffee plantation worker near Gudalur in the Nilgiris on Friday. The deceased has been identified as K Ravikumar, 51, of Larston village. He was working in a coffee plantation in O Valley’s Larston village under the Gudalur forest division.While Ravikumar was working in the plantation, a tiger pounced on him and dragged him for nearly 100 metres. Later, villagers discovered his partially consumed body and alerted the forest department and the local police.Forest officials and police rushed to the scene and recovered the body.On Aug 8, a tiger killed a 58-year-old coffee plantation worker, identified as M Balakrishnan in O’Valley. His partially eaten body was found near the coffee plantation the following morning.Gudalur district forest officer P Devaraj said, “We have identified pugmarks from the spot and suspect the same tiger in both the incidents. We have placed 22 camera traps to monitor the tiger and set four cage traps to capture it. Two more traps will be set up to safely capture the tiger and prioritise people’s safety.”Villagers staged a protest on Friday demanding that the forest officials capture the tiger that killed two men.
