Chandrapur: An elderly woman who had been missing for two days was found dead in the Padmapur forest beat of the south Brahmapuri Forest Range on Friday morning. Forest officials confirmed that she was killed in a tiger attack.The deceased, identified as Yamuna Madavi, a resident of Padmapur village had left home on Wednesday morning to collect broom grass from a nearby forest area. She did not return until late evening and remained untraceable for over a day.On Friday around 8am, her mutilated body was discovered in compartment No. 1156 of the protected forest area under the Padmapur beat. Officials and staff from the Brahmapuri forest division prepared preliminary inquiry report, sent the body to the rural hospital for autopsy. The forest department has provided immediate financial assistance of Rs2.25 lakh to the victim’s family. Patrolling will be increased in the area, and residents were advised to remain alert.According to official records, four people have lost their lives in wildlife attacks in Chandrapur district so far this year — three in tiger attacks and one in a leopard attack. In 2025, the district recorded 47 deaths linked to wildlife incidents, including 42 caused by tigers, three by leopards, and one each due to bear and elephant attacks.
