A number of Tibetans claimed to have lost voting rights in the SIR process

Berhampur: Tibetans settled at Chandragiri in Gajapati district, whose names had been struck off the electoral rolls during the SIR exercise, are pinning their hopes on Election Commission, which has ordered a special drive to include left-out voters.“We hope our names will be added in the special drive to include left-out voters,” said 61-year-old Tnzin, a Tibetan settled in Chandragiri camp. He had exercised his franchise in the 2024 assembly and Lok Sabha elections. His name, however, was deleted from the voters’ list published on Sept 21.Not only Tnzin, around 300 Tibetans living in different camps are hoping for the same. “We hope our names will be included in the electoral list as we had exercised our franchise in 2024 elections,” said Tashi Lhamo (35).Tnzin, an executive body member of the Tibetan Youth Congress, said the names of almost all Tibetan refugees who live in the settlement camps of Chandragiri, Jeeranga, Labarsingh and Tankilipadar are missing in the final electoral list. “We will again appeal to the district authorities to add our names during the special drive,” said Tnzin.During the SIR exercise, they could not submit any document, said a district official. “If they are found eligible, their names will be added during the special drive as per the guidelines of the Election Commission,” the official added.
