Kolkata: The city remained warm and sunny as the minimum temperature climbed 5°C to touch 25.2°C on Sunday. While the maximum, too, climbed to 32.2°C, districts across south Bengal continued to be lashed by thunderstorms. The Met office predicted ‘enhanced thunderstorm activity’ over the districts of Bengal on March 31. Kolkata will remain relatively dry. A trough may form over the next 48 hours, which, coupled with southerly winds, will trigger thunderstorms across south Bengal on March 31, said the Met office. Some parts of north Bengal may also receive rain. “While the upper air circulation that triggered thunderstorms in south and north Bengal on Thursday and Friday has weakened, a new system is expected to form,” said HR Biswas, deputy director-general of meteorology. Conditions remain favourable for thunderstorms, and districts across south and north Bengal will continue to receive sporadic thunderstorms on Monday. “On March 31, chances of thundershowers will rise across the districts of south and north Bengal,” added Biswas.
