Nagpur: The rural police registered a case against 11 persons, including three professors from Govindrao Wanjari College of Engineering and Technology, Salai Godhani, after it came to fore that caste certificates were forged to secure admissions through the state CET Cell.
The case was filed at Pachgaon Police Station on March 28, based on a report by the police inspector from the Police Vigilance Team, caste verification department.
The accused include professors Amol Ghode (34), asst professors Mohan Karambhe (45), and Shubham Khorgade (41), all residents of Nagpur. They were removed from service following the allegations.
The other accused are Jitendra Devgade (45) and Devendra Moundekar (52), both parents of students; one of the students, Nisha Gudhe (18), Nihal Nipane (21) Nandu Dudhpachare (35), and Ganesh Shende (28), who allegedly forged the certificates, along with Rahul Yadav alias Rahul Anand (45) and his associate Vivek Singh (40). Dudhpachare died a few days ago. The group allegedly conspired to prepare fake certificates and submit them to the CET Cell, Pune, said police.
MLC Abhijit Wanjarri, whose family runs the college, confirmed that the administration acted swiftly against the erring professors. “This type of caste verification scam has occurred in many other educational institutions,” said Wanjarri, stressing the need for stricter verification processes.Police sources Rahul Yadav allegedly collected money from the scam.
The scam came to light following complaints and orders from authorities dated Dec 2025 and March 2026. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the racket.
