Chandigarh: Three persons were found dead in different parts of the city in a span of 24 hours, prompting investigations by Chandigarh Police. One of the victims, an unidentified man with visible head injuries, was discovered on a bench in a park in Sector 15. Sector 11 police suspect murder, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after autopsy.A shopkeeper in the book market area of Sector 11 told the police that a man aged around 40 was lying motionless on a park bench. When the police arrived, they found bloodstains on the bench and the ground, besides injury marks on the victim’s head and one side of his face. A broken helmet, a water bottle and some belongings were also found on an adjacent bench. The presence of blood on part of the broken helmet raised suspicion that the victim may have been struck with it, though police said this can only be confirmed after the postmortem.The CFSL team from Sector 36 was called to examine the spot. The body has been kept at the GMSH-16 mortuary, and an autopsy will be conducted once the identity of the deceased is established. Sector 11 police have collected evidence from the green belt area and initiated investigation.In a separate case, Sector 31 police received a message about a person lying unconscious near the bank side of the Ramdarbar Phase 2 market. When police reached the location, they found that the person, a beggar, had died. His identity could not be established, and the police initiated inquest proceedings.In the third incident, a passer-by spotted a man lying unconscious near the Sector 28/29 light point and alerted the police. The Industrial Area Phase 1 police team reached the spot and found that the unidentified person had died. Police said the man was habituated to drinking alcohol.
