Ghaziabad: Three people died and 13 others were injured after the Bolero pickup truck they were travelling in was hit by a cargo truck allegedly being driven on the wrong side on Ganga Canal Road in the early hours of Wednesday.Mahiram, the owner of the Bolero, told cops that he and his family members, along with some neighbours, were travelling from Alwar to Haridwar. Around 12.30am , as they were passing the Ganga Canal Road near Abhupur village, a truck overloaded with iron goods approached from the wrong side. Mahiram said they signalled for the truck to switch to the correct lane, but the truck swerved into them, leading to the crash. Around six people seated in the back were thrown off the vehicle and sustained severe injuries.Passersby dialled the emergency number 112 to alert police, and a team reached the spot along with an ambulance. Ramesh Lal (30), Ratan Balmiki (32) and Sarjit Ram (32) were declared dead on arrival, while Anil (29), Harmeet (38) and Lal’s wife Asha (27) sustained serious injuries and are being treated, while the others sustained minor injuries and have been discharged.Police seized the truck and arrested the driver, Chotu Lal (38), and conductor, Pintu Singh (18), from the spot. An FIR has been registered against the two under BNS sections 105 (culpable homicide) and 281 (rash driving). The driver told cops that he momentarily lost control of the vehicle and struck the Bolero.In June this year, 121 accidents were reported across Ghaziabad where 45 people were killed and 90 injured.
