Shillong: Three govt vehicles and a tourist taxi were set ablaze in a series of suspected incidents of arson across different parts of Shillong on Saturday.Police have launched an investigation into the incidents caused by unidentified miscreants.Vehicles belonging to key govt agencies, including the police, health department and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), besides a tourist taxi, were set on fire at multiple locations in Shillong within a short span of time.East Khasi Hills superintendent of police Vivek Syiem said the damaged vehicles included one police vehicle, one vehicle from the health department, one NEEPCO vehicle and one tourist taxi.The incidents took place around ‘3am to 4am’, the SP said, even as no arrests were made till filing of this report.A police vehicle parked at the Kench’s Trace Beat House was set ablaze around 3am. The fire damaged the vehicle’s hood and seat, but was quickly doused before it could cause extensive damage, the SP said.Around the same time, a health department vehicle parked near Synod College at Lumdiengjri was partially damaged after being set on fire.In another incident, a vehicle belonging to NEEPCO and parked along the roadside at Mawlai Phudmuri, was also partially burnt, with damage reported to its interior.A tourist taxi was also among the vehicles targeted in multiple incidents of arson. Police have launched the probe to identify those responsible and determine whether the attacks were coordinated.
