Coimbatore: The KG Chavadi police on Sunday arrested three Kerala-based men for their involvement in a highway robbery that was reported on Feb 19.The arrested men were identified as N Nithin, 33, S Sreekumar, 31, and K Suthish, 39, all natives of Kasaragod in Kerala. The trio were apprehended in Kasaragod by a special team formed by the KG Chavadi police, who seized Rs21,000 and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) that was used to kidnap and rob a Kerala-based goldsmith on the Salem-Cochin Highway near KG Chavadi on Thursday, from them. According to police, the gang tailed M Lukman, of Naduvattam near Pattambi in Kerala, while he was returning to his hometown on his two-wheeler on Thursday morning after selling 200g of gold bars in Coimbatore. “When he crossed the Walayar check post, the gang travelling in an SUV knocked him down and forced him into their vehicle at knifepoint. While some members drove away with Lukman, others fled the spot with his two-wheeler, which contained cash hidden in a secret compartment,” a police officer said. Based on Lukman’s complaint, the KG Chavadi police traced the suspects and arrested them. Further investigation is under way to identify and arrest others involved in the case.
