Continuing its sustained drive against the menace of drugs, Police in Kulgam arrested three drug peddlers in two separate actions and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A Police spokesperson said that During naka checking at Khudwani on NHW, two persons who attempted to evade the police party were apprehended. During their search, 1.2kg of Charas was recovered from the possession of Ranjeet Singh son of Dilbeer Singh resident of Maratal Wandi, Amritsar, while 0.86 grams of Brown Sugar and 57 grams of Charas were recovered from Jobin son of Major Singh resident of Meno Wali, Amritsar.
Similarly, during naka checking at Khrewan–Lassipora, a person moving in a suspicious manner tried to flee on noticing the police party was tactfully apprehended. During his search, 205 grams of Charas-like substance (powder form) was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Idrees Ahmad Ganai son of Ghulam Mohammad Ganai resident of Furrah.
All the accused have been arrested and accordingly cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations. Further investigation has been initiated.
Police reiterates its firm commitment to eradicate the drug menace from society and appeals to the general public, especially parents and youth, to cooperate with police and share any information related to drug peddling or substance abuse in their areas.
