Surat: Three members of a family were killed and a woman was injured after a motorcycle rammed into a stationary tractor on the Varachha overbridge in Surat late Saturday night, police said. The tractor driver has been arrested for negligence.The deceased were identified as Shailesh Maniya (41), his six-year-old son Maan, and his eight-year-old nephew Mantra. Maniya’s wife, Krupa, sustained injuries and was later discharged after receiving medical treatment.According to police, Maniya was returning home with his family when the accident occurred on the Varachha overbridge while travelling from Hirabaug towards Pasodara. A tractor had been parked on the bridge allegedly without reflectors, warning signs or lights. Due to poor visibility, the motorcycle crashed into the rear of the tractor.All four occupants suffered serious injuries and were rushed to a private hospital with the help of passers-by. The two children were later shifted to another hospital, where doctors declared them dead. Maniya succumbed to his injuries during treatment.Following the incident, Ashwinikumar police station registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act and arrested the tractor driver, Ramzan Khan (27).Police said the tractor had been parked on the overbridge due to ongoing civic work.
